Congratulations to Vimala George, RN, MA, MSN, ANP-BC, who was recently elected the President of the National Association of Indian Nurses of America (NAINA) for the 2013-2014 term.
Vimala has 29 years of experience in nursing in different health care settings. She graduated with a BSN from the Post Graduate Institute of Chandigarh in 1983 and began her career as a bedside nurse in India. She came to the United States in 1987 and got the opportunity to work as a registered nurse. She has had a variety of leadership roles, including Supervisor, Assistant/Associate Director, Consultant/Recruiter, Educator/Faculty, Director/Nurse Practitioner, and NP-Hospitalist. She currently works as a Nurse Practitioner in New York and New Jersey and is enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
She is also an active participant and leader in her community at both the local and national level. Vimala has received many awards and certificates, including the Dr. Omana Simon Honorary Student Research Award-2010 (NAINA), a Certificate of Appointment as Dean for International Nursing at Washington Medical Science Institute from the Chair, UNESCO – WAU Center of Excellence, and an HRSA Grant from Thomas Edison State College for online mentor training.
