Dress for Success
It’s amazing what self-confidence can help one accomplish. Self-confidence can come from receiving a compliment, losing weight, accomplishing a goal…just about anything. What increases self-confidence for one individual may not work for another, but I have noticed updating a wardrobe seems to increase self-confidence.
Have you ever seen a person lose a tremendous amount of weight and still not have the confidence they thought they would have after the weight came off? Put them in a new set of clothes and watch their personality come out!
The clothes really do make the man…in more ways than one.
From the time I was a child my father instilled the importance of dressing for success. Although I emerged from humble beginnings as a child my father always dressed like we were wealthy. I remember him once telling me that other people perceive you differently when you dress in a clean, professional manner.
As an adult I have experience with presenting myself in the best light possible through my clothes and I can honestly say it truly makes a difference. My Dad was right. I realized that if you pay attention to your clothes and how you carry yourself, not only do others perceive you in a different light, but you perceive yourself in that light as well.
I’m no fashionista, but I make sure I dress like one for important events in life like job interviews and, throughout my college years, exams. My though process is that when I look good I feel good, and my confidence soars. This makes me feel like I can accomplish anything.
And you know what? It usually works. I landed that dream job, got into that prestigious university, and passed that exam. Some may chalk it up to my previous experience and education, but I still think my perfectly tailored suit and Cole Haan heels played a role.
If you’re finding yourself feeling discouraged or unconfident more often than not, try changing up your wardrobe. Try dressing for success for your next important event!
