Texas Lutheran University is a private, undergraduate university associated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), offering high quality programs in the arts, sciences, and professional studies. TLU offers 27 majors and 34 minors, all of which are grounded in the liberal arts.

Founded in 1891, Texas Lutheran University resides on 184 acres in Seguin, Texas, near San Antonio and Austin. With approximately 1,400 students and classes averaging fewer than 20 students, TLU students engage in high-impact educational experiences that include civic engagement, aesthetic expression, critical thinking, and a focus on intercultural and global knowledge in a community that welcomes the interplay of faith and reason. While a primary emphasis is still on teaching at TLU, faculty also engage students in collaborative research and scholarly activity which enriches the teaching/learning environment.

In addition to a new general education curriculum, Compass, TLU is also focused on a co-curriculum that provides a variety of opportunities in academic, social, cultural, spiritual, and physical activities with special emphasis on civic engagement inside and outside the classroom. In 2012 and 2013, TLU was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for its commitment to community service.

TLU has been recognized repeatedly in U.S. News & World Report as a “Best College” and “Best Value” among colleges in the Western region. For 2 years TLU has also been named one of the “Great Colleges to Work For” by The Chronicle of Higher Education and a “Top Workplace” by the San Antonio Express-News.
