New Mexico State University Alamogordo is seeking to fill a regular, full-time (1.0 fte) 9-month college-track faculty position within the Career & Technology Division. The faculty member reports to the Director of Allied Health and to the Division Head for Career & Technology. The faculty member’s responsibilities include: providing instruction, use of a learning management system (currently Canvas), teaching skills laboratories, arranging and monitoring clinical setting partnerships. The instruction provided must be compliant with New Mexico regulations and industry best practices, where applicable. The faculty member must maintain a current Registered Nurse license from the state of New Mexico. Education and experience requirements include a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and at least 2-years of nursing experience. The faculty member is responsible for developing strong partnerships with appropriate community stake holders in support of new course development and college improvement. This individual promotes NMSU–Alamogordo’s mission by providing quality learning opportunities within the diverse service area.
Required Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution. Minimum of 2-years of nursing experience and minimum of 1-year college-level teaching or healthcare industry teaching/training experience. Current United States registered nurse license in good standing. Must obtain Mexico State registered nurse licensure prior to August 18, 2019 (employment start date). Ability to teach online and hybrid courses and ability to work with a diverse student population. Understanding of the community college mission and philosophy and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Experience with healthcare theory, practice, and direct patient care and ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
Qualifications Preferred: Additional certifications in a specialty area, e.g. Phlebotomy, Certified Nursing Assistant, Personal Care Assistant, EKG Technician, or Medical Assistant. 3-years of nursing experience in specialty area, e.g. acute care, long-term care, or a medical office setting. Experience with online instruction and Quality Matters and experience with course-level and program assessment.
Responsibilities: Position responsibilities require leadership in both academic and workforce areas and include meeting student retention goals; participation in educational planning, evaluation of allied health courses, student performance; motivate and advise students. Identify and communicate the need for supplies and equipment to meet program needs and goals. Participate in the preparation of class schedules, selection of textbooks, writing syllabi, course-level and program assessment and curricular changes. Required to provide 15-credit hours of instruction per fall and spring semesters. Courses, labs, clinical and community activities may be scheduled weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or multiple locations, online and hybrid formats, depending upon institutional needs. The potential exists for summer and overload instruction at additional compensation. The position also provides opportunity for participation in professional development activities and may be asked to participate as a member or chair on committees, and perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
Successful candidates must have a philosophy which supports the goal of success for all students through hands-on learning experiences and strong faculty involvement. Finalists will be asked to document teaching effectiveness with relevant material and will be asked to present a teaching demonstration or a leadership seminar.
