VCU Health’s Peri-Operative Education department is seeking a FT OR RN Intern. The VCU Health OR RN Intern practices within the boundaries of the Commonwealth of Virginia regulations governing nursing. Practice is also guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards, as well as all VCU Health policies and procedures.

Our AORN internship program consists of 4 weeks didactics and 5 months of clinical practice all under the supervision of a preceptor. Our internship will prepare you as an OR Nurse to scrub and circulate all surgical specialties 



Functions under direction of RN in providing patient care, emotional support, nursing in-services, patient conferences, rounding with physicians and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.

Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes, legal issues, directed care which deviates from standard, identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.

OR RN Intern work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed.






Graduate of, or within 90 days of graduation from, an accredited RN nursing program.


Current RN licensure in Virginia or compact state, or eligible for licensure. All selected new graduate applicants must take and pass NCLEX within 90 days of graduation date.




Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited RN nursing program.


Academic Medical Center experience as a registered nurse.


Registered nurse experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of desired practice.


AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
