About St. John Providence Health System
Believe in Better
St. John Providence is committed to providing care to treat the entire person -- body, mind, and spirit. This philosophy of care underscores our heritage as a faith-based health system offering our patients so much more than medicine.
We are the largest provider of inpatient care in southeast Michigan and one of the largest employers in metro Detroit. St. John Providence provides comprehensive prevention, primary care, and advanced treatment programs with more than 125 medical centers and four hospitals spanning four counties. Our Centers of Excellence offer expertise in cancer, heart and vascular, minimally invasive surgery, neuroscience, orthopedics, and weight loss.
Commitment to Community
At St. John Providence, we recognize that every community - and every person - is different. That's why St. John Providence Community Health offers a wide variety of health and wellness programs that meet diverse needs, regardless of economic status and physical condition. Learn more about our community health programs here. In addition, the St. John Providence family includes thousands of volunteers and donors who support our health care mission in the community with their generosity.
St. John Providence's size means we have a stronger voice when advocating for those who have no voice--the poor and vulnerable. Through partnerships, coalitions, and program development and support, our innovative programs increase access to healthcare services and empower individuals to make informed health choices. We provide an estimated $200 million in uncompensated care to our community annually.
Graduate Medical Education
St. John Providence Graduate Medical Education is affiliated with the Wayne State University School of Medicine, Michigan State Osteopathic School of Medicine, and multiple medical schools outside the state. It is the third largest graduate medical education program in Michigan. Residency and fellowship programs are fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, American Osteopathic Association, Council on Podiatric Medical Education, and Commission on Dental Accreditation. St. John Providence is the only health system in Michigan to have all four graduate medical education programs: Allopathic, Osteopathic, Podiatric, and Dental (advanced dental, periodontology, oral surgery). The St. John Providence - Osteopathic Division is the nation's largest program accredited by the American Osteopathic Association.
St. John Providence is a member of Ascension Health, the nation's largest Catholic and nonprofit health system. Ascension Health is transforming healthcare by providing the highest quality care to all, with special attention to those who are poor and vulnerable. Last year alone, Ascension provided $1.1 billion in care for persons who are poor, and in community benefit.
