Job Overview

Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for a nine-month Nursing faculty position in the Associate Degree Nursing Program starting the fall 2013 semester. The incumbent will have a teaching load of 15 credits per semester, which may include distance-learning courses and on- and off-campus courses during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends.

In addition to teaching, all faculty members advise students, serve on college committees, and participate in other activities that support the mission of the college. Such activities may include, but are not limited to: institutional effectiveness activities, club sponsorship, student recruitment, course and program evaluation, community service, and mentoring new and part-time faculty. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education.

 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
REQUIRED:           Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in Nursing; current Virginia licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN); a minimum of 2 years direct nursing care experience in the clinical area; ability to utilize current classroom technology and experience using word processing and spreadsheet software.  
 
DESIRED:              Experience teaching Nursing students in a community college setting; demonstrated familiarity with academic advising, student success, and retention efforts in the educational setting. Clinical experience in Medical/Surgical, Behavioral Health, and/or Obstetrical nursing is desired.
