REPORTS TO: Associate Medical Director
STATUS: Full-Time Regular, Exempt

BACKGROUND: The Indian Health Center of Santa Clara Valley is a 501(c)3, nonprofit, community health clinic, located in San Jose, California. We serve people from all walks of life, regardless of race, creed, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation or disability and take pride in serving our diverse patients and clients. Besides having a highly talented medical and dental department, the Indian Health Center also has an outstanding counseling department, community wellness center and WIC (Women Infants and Children) department.

POSITION SUMMARY: This high-level operational & administrative role reports to the Associate Medical Director of the agency & includes supervising & training staff; overseeing & improving medical, data, & staffing procedures; overseeing quality improvement; overseeing revenue collections with a thorough understanding of third party reimbursements; & providing support to medical providers. The IHC is a Patient Centered Health Home & all employees are an integral part of this model of care delivery.

• Assist the Medical Department in ensuring efficient clinic flow and provider productivity
• Assist providers with prescriptions, abnormal test results and referrals of patients for consultations/specialized tests
• Triage walk-in and call-in patients
• Supervise Medical Assistants
• Assist the Medical back office as needed
• Ensure IHC provides high quality medical care at all times
• Supervise Medical Assistants, Receptionists, other clinic staff
• Supervise Immunization services
• Assist in Audits, Reporting and Quality Improvement projects
• Work closely with different Health Plans
• Demonstrate commitment to the team, flexibility, professional interpersonal communication, critical thinking and customer service skills
• Maintain high quality customer service at all times
• Participate as a proactive representative of the Patient Centered Health Home
• Perform duties utilizing the Team-Based Approach
• Perform all other duties as assigned

• Possession of California Registered Nursing License in good standing
• 2 years of experience as a nurse in a community health clinic
• 2 years experience in a supervisory position
• Excellent customer service skills
• Knowledge of and ability to relate to the American Indian community and other minority populations
• Demonstrate ability to perform multiple administrative functions simultaneously in an accurate, organized, and efficient manner
• Knowledge of office systems. Computer literacy and knowledge of Windows environment and popular software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite and EHR systems )
• Flexibility, initiative, reliability, and creativity
• Possession of a valid California Driver License, automobile insurance, and a clean driving record
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
• Fluency in English and Spanish preferred
• Electronic Health Record proficiency needed
• Ability to function independently and as a team member within diverse environments as well as with a diverse staff composition
• Ability to multitask & thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
• Ability to carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical & professional manner and demonstrate good judgment

• Ability to sit, stand and walk for extensive periods of time
• Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for nursing care
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds
• Ability to stoop, squat, or bend frequently
• Corrected vision and hearing within normal range to observe and communicate with patients and professional staff

Exposure to all patient elements, including communicable disease and blood borne pathogens. Will be working in a fast paced medical environment which can be stressful and constantly changing conditions. Normal working hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm with one hour for lunch. However, working hours may vary depending upon need. Will need to be flexible in performing tasks with limited discretion in making judgment decisions.
