Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU) invites nominations, expressions of interest and applications for the position of dean of the College of Health and Society.
Hawai‘i Pacific University is a private, not-for-profit institution of approximately 4,200 undergraduate and 800 graduate students. Founded in 1965, it is Hawaii’s largest private university and a leader in innovative higher education. HPU is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). The current accreditation extends to 2022. Focused on providing a unique perspective to the student experience, HPU is developing student-centric, market-based programming that responds to the evolving needs of students, employers and the Hawai‘i community.
The College of Health and Society is currently located at the Hawai‘i Loa Campus (HLC) on Oahu’s windward coast in Kaneohe. The entire campus will be relocating to the downtown campus in the center of Honolulu’s business district by 2020. The urban setting in the state capitol fosters close ties with local business, nonprofit and government leaders and provides access to diverse partnerships. As the University launches its next strategic plan, the dean of the College of Health and Society has a unique opportunity to position HPU as a driver of the quality of life and health systems in the state and the Pacific Region.
Reporting directly to the provost, the dean will be responsible for developing both internal and external partnerships, driving enrollment and generating new resources and revenue streams. The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented, inclusive leader and a public-facing ambassador to both the University and community. Critical to this role will be a commitment to the Hawaiian culture and local values that include pono (honest and moral), kuleana (responsibility and concern for all interests, property and people) and aloha (kindness and grace).
Candidates must possess a doctorate from an accredited university in Nursing, Social Work, Public Health or a closely related field, ten years of experience as a regular full-time faculty member in an accredited university or equivalent, five years of higher education administrative experience from an accredited university and successful experience with regional or discipline-specific accreditation processes.
