The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith is located on a beautiful 140-acre campus in Fort Smith, Arkansas, a historic city of more than 80,000. It is situated in the beautiful River Valley of Western Arkansas, nestled between the scenic Ozark and Ouachita Mountains, which offer plentiful opportunities for outdoor activity. Fort Smith, the second largest city in Arkansas, is also within easy driving distance of Tulsa, Kansas City, Dallas, Little Rock, and Memphis. The College of Health Sciences has an opening beginning academic year 2013-2014 for a full-time, endowed position in nursing. The candidate for this endowed position is expected to have achieved an established record as an educator, practitioner, and/or researcher. Primary responsibilities will include classroom and clinical teaching in the Carolyn McKelvey Moore School of Nursing programs. Other responsibilities include ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum; student advisement, recruitment, and retention activities; professional development; scholarly activity; participation in program, college, and university committees and activities that benefit the School of Nursing, College of Health Sciences, and the University.
Background must be appropriate for rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Minimum requirements include an earned doctorate in nursing or related field; plus evidence as a distinguished scholar or practitioner; demonstrated excellence in teaching, mentoring, practice, and research; and an Arkansas RN license (or eligibility). Preference will be given to candidates with significant accomplishments as reflected in publications in influential journals and regional and/or national reputation as a leader in nursing. Desired qualifications include prior teaching experience at the university level; demonstrated experience and leadership skills in the development of instructional materials; ability to use technology as a teaching and learning tool; collaborative active learning; excellent interpersonal, organization, and communication skills; and a commitment to high professional standards. Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Additionally, the salary will be supplemented by a generous stipend from Douglas O. Smith, Jr. Endowed Professorship in Nursing.
