Position Title: Indiana Academy Nurse
Reports To: Director of Residential and Student Affairs

This description is intended to indicate the duties and level of difficulty required at this salary grade; It is not intended to limit the right of any supervisor to assign, direct and control the work of an employee under his/her supervision.

Positions Supervised:

Position Function:
Provide health care and health related education to students at the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities, a residential school for academically gifted 11th and 12th grade students, under the supervision and direction of the Coordinator of Healthcare Services.
Provide routine and emergency health care for the students of the Indiana Academy.

Provide transportation for Indiana Academy students to and from health related appointments as necessary.

Assist in maintaining student health records to assure required forms and immunizations are complete and current.

Dispense medication to students in compliance with the Indiana Academy Medication Policy; maintain a medication log on each student taking prescription medication includes; follow-up of student compliance/non-compliance.

Maintain an open line of communication with parents regarding student illness, injury, medication and/or other health related issues.

May be required to respond to calls after work hours.

Conduct rounds on student floors as needed to check on ill and/or injured students.

Participate in health related conferences as appropriate.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

All of the above essential functions require varying degrees of independence, judgment, and discretion. Requires the ability to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
Degree from an accredited school for licensed practical nursing (LPN).
Three months through one year of experience as a nurse; current Indiana nursing license; possess and maintain an Indiana driver’s license and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy; computer literate.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Degree from an accredited school for registered nursing (RN).

Experience as a nurse in a school setting. Experience in assessment
