Job Overview


Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Nursing, the Associate Dean is responsible for the coordination of services for students in the School of Nursing pertaining to curriculum and policy. The Associate Dean will prepare reports for administration and external regulatory agencies and serve as liaison to College departments and on committees that provide student services, as well as share responsibility for recruitment and publications. The Associate Dean will be instrumental in continuous program review and the regulatory body accreditation process.   

Examples of Work

– Creates program policies and monitors the approval process.
– Attends departmental meetings appropriate to the provision of academic services for students in the School of Nursing.
– Participates in meetings of the School of Nursing committee.
– Serves on subcommittees of the School of Nursing Committee as appointed by the Dean.
– Participates in School of Nursing staff and School of Nursing Committee meetings and activities.
– Designs, implements and participates in recruitment activities for the School of Nursing and monitors recruitment budget.
– Monitors College website, publications and program materials to insure information about the School of Nursing is clear, current, accurate and appropriately distributed.
– Oversees ongoing program development, administration and evaluation.
– Collects and provides data to the Dean, assists in the preparation of reports for the School of Nursing.
– Provides guidance in the development of honors and other student recognition programs.
– Serves as representative for the School of Nursing at meetings of the State Board of Nursing and on other occasions as designated by the Dean.
– Maintains current RN licensure in New Jersey.
– Participates in staff development and appropriate professional activities to maintain currency in issues related to curriculum, adult learning and professional nursing.
– Collaborates with other School of Nursing staff in preparing presentation and/or publications.
– Oversees the NLNAC and CCNE accreditation processes.
– Recommends priorities for allocation of resources to identified School of Nursing programs.
– Approves practicum agencies, oversees student compliance with state and local regulations.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

– Familiarity with philosophy and practices of higher education.
– Demonstrated expertise with concepts of distance learning and online education.
– Knowledge of standards, curriculum and policies pertaining to programs of professional nursing.
– Knowledge of current issues and trends in professional nursing and adult learning.
– Ability to work with professional and support staff, others in the profession and members of the community.
– Ability to work at a distance with students and professionals associated with the program.
– Ability to use technology to communicate, locate and record information and prepare reports.
– Knowledge of the nursing accreditation process.  



Possession of terminal degree in an academic or professional discipline related to the specific academic area or the equivalence as determined by the appointing authority.


A minimum of six years experience in a higher education environment combining academic instruction and administration or the equivalence as determined by the appointing authority.  

New Jersey RN License required.
