Minority Nurse Announces 9th Annual Scholarship ProgramFinancial assistance to help racial and ethnic minority nursing students fulfill their professional education goals is critically needed at all levels, from students in associatedegree and diploma programs to PhD candidates. But many nursing educators agree that it is the BSN degree that opens the most doors of opportunity for students of color—doors to better jobs, graduate study and careers in research, academia, advanced practice and health care management. That’s why Minority Nurse created an annual scholarship program designed to help our student readers complete their studies leading to a baccalaureate degree. This year, the magazine will again award four scholarships—two $1,000 awards and two $500 awards—to minority students who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the nursing profession. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, financial need and a demonstrated commitment of service to the student’s minority community. For a complete list of eligibility criteria, see the application form. The Minority Nurse Magazine Scholarship Program is designed to meet the needs of students enrolled in four-year BSN programs as well as students attending nursing programs that provide more flexible alternatives to the traditional four-year BSN degree. The scholarshipsare open to racial and ethnic minority students who in January 2009 will be enrolled in either: the third or fourth year of an accredited BSN program in the United States OR an accelerated program leading to a BSN degree (such as RN-to-BSN or BA-to-BSN) OR an accelerated master’s entry nursing program for students with bachelor’s degrees in fieldsother than nursing (such as BA-to-MSN). The recipients will be selected by the magazine’s editor and members of its editorial advisory board. Apply Today!
