Some people call the holidays the most wonderful time of the year, but nurses know there’s one day each year they treasure. That day comes this weekend, and it has nothing to do with Halloween. The darkness falls earlier, but that extra hour is like a gift!

Here are 30 ways to use your extra hour when Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday at 2 am. Whatever you do, make it count!

  1. Sleep. Really, most of you won’t have to think twice about this one.
  2. Catch up on the Sunday paper, People magazine, The Odyssey, a romance, or a mystery.
  3. Go for a walk. Kickbox. Do yoga. Swim. Just move.
  4. Call a friend or a family member.
  5. Help a neighbor.
  6. Bake cookies for your coworkers, your neighbors, or your local senior center.
  7. Cook that new soup recipe you cut out.
  8. Get a pedicure.
  9. Find an inspiring quote to set your week by.
  10. Make a terrarium.
  11. Volunteer at a pet shelter.
  12. Look though old photos.
  13. Learn how to do something new quickly.
  14. Water your plants.
  15. Meet a girlfriend for coffee.
  16. Breathe deeply.
  17. Eat something delicious.
  18. Watch funny pet or baby videos and laugh your socks off.
  19. Snuggle.
  20. Move your furniture around.
  21. Indulge in your favorite hobby.
  22. Clean up your email – you know those 5,000 emails aren’t going to go away on their own.
  23. Hand write a note to thank someone who deserves it.
  24. Help out at a food pantry.
  25. Write down what you are grateful for.
  26. Set some new goals.
  27. Plan your next vacation – the real one and the in-your-wildest-dreams one.
  28. Paint, draw, sculpt.
  29. Look at the cloud formations.
  30. Feel blessed for the crazy, imperfect life you lead!
